The death case of Assamese iconic singer Zubeen Garg continues to make headlines as new details surface every day. And now, as per the reports, the latest development suggests that the court has rejected the bail plea of all three accused in the murder case.
On Friday, January 30, 2026, the District and Sessions Judge’s court rejected the bail application of the three accused – Amritaprava Mahanta and the two bodyguards of Zubeen Garg, namely Paresh Baishya and Nandeshwar Bora.
The order from the court came after the detailed hearing on January 22. During the hearing, the bail plea was also reversed for the orders.
However, against the three accused, the Special Investigation Team, including Garima Saikia Garg, rejected the bail pleas and filed a separate petition to reject them. Not just that, the court also acknowledged the seriousness of the prosecution’s allegations of criminal conspiracy and financial misappropriation. Also, Special Public Prosecutor Ziual Kamar said that the two bodyguards severely betrayed Zubeen Garg’s trust.
In his statement, Kamar highlighted that the two bodyguards, Baishya and Bora, misused and siphoned off the money entrusted to them to care for Zubeen Garg, using it for their own benefit.
The prosecutor emphasised, ” They were supposed to protect Zubeen Garg, not exploit him. The money was kept with them in good faith, but instead of acting responsibly, they indulged in financial bungling and misappropriation. Had there been no ill intention, they should have informed the family. Their conduct clearly points towards culpability.”
He also added, “Amritaprava Mahanta was fully involved in the conspiracy linked to the crime. Given the nature of the evidence and her role, the court found no grounds to grant her bail.”
The court has announced February 13 as the next date of hearing in connection with these new defence petitions, while on February 16 it will hear arguments on objections raised by business partners.
