Popular Indian singer and songwriter from Assam died in Singapore in 2024, just a day before he was scheduled to perform at a festival. The singer died due to drowning in the waters off Lazarus Island. According to the latest reports, the Singapore court was told that the singer refused to wear a life jacket before drowning in the water.

At the age of 52, Zubeen was partying on a yacht in Singapore on September 19, 2025. The singer initially wore the life jacket, but he later removed it and even refused to put it back on when asked, the police officials reportedly told the court on Wednesday.

In addition, at the time of drowning, Zubeen was severely intoxicated, and many present observed him trying to swim back to the yacht before drowning in the water.

However, as soon as he was noticed, he was pulled back onto the yacht, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered to him. But he was declared dead later on the same day.

Zubeen had a medical history of hypertension and epilepsy, and it was unclear whether the singer had his medication for epilepsy on the day of the incident. Also, the eyewitness failed to confirm whether the singer had his medication.

In conclusion, the Singapore police officials said there was no foul play or suspicion found in Zubeen’s death.
