Tamil wasn’t Rajini’s first language, but he quickly became fluent.

Rajinikanth and actor Kamal Haasan co-starred in the 1975 Tamil film “Apoorva Raagangal,” which was their debut. Before 1977, when he appeared in the Telugu movie “Chilakamma Cheppindi,” he had only been acknowledged for his negative performances in the first two years of his career. His first commercial success was the 1980 movie Billa, which he made. Billa was a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s “Don” from the year before.
