A Pakistani player who is part of the 2026 T20 World Cup team received a fine because of reported misbehavior which took place at the Golden Crown Hotel in Kandy where he and his team stayed during the tournament.

According to reports the incident took place shortly before Pakistan played its last Super Eight match against Sri Lanka on February 28 2026. The unnamed cricketer at the hotel interacted with a female housekeeping employee in an improper way which made her need emergency help from other hotel staff members. The situation was brought under control without further escalation.

Naveed Cheema who serves as the Pakistan team manager dedicated his time to apologize to hotel management for the behavior displayed by the player. Cheema used his authority to impose a fine on the cricketer who committed the offense because he wanted to handle the situation through internal channels. The hotel management accepted the apology and did not escalate the complaint to local authorities. The player remains unnamed according to official statements.

Although the hotel chose not to pursue the case any further the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to conduct its own disciplinary investigation when the team returns to their home country. The individual could face additional sanctions pending the PCB’s investigation.

The Pakistan squad faces increased scrutiny because of this incident which follows a separate punishment imposed by the PCB because the team failed to reach the tournament semi-finals resulting in a fine of ₹50 lakh (PKR 5 million) for each squad member.
