India’s first-ever shooting gold medallist in the Asian Games and veteran sports administrator Randhir Singh has died. The sportsperson passed away today, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, after fighting with age-related ailments. He was 79 years old at the time of his demise.
As per the reports, Randhir was hospitalized days before his demise at his residence today. He was one of India’s most respected names in both sports and sports administration, and the sportsperson recently quit his position as the President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) owing to his health complications after being elected for a four-year term in 2024.
Randhir’s demise news was confirmed by National Rifle Association of India secretary Rajiv Bhatia.
Reportedly, Rajiv stated, “With deep sorrow, we share the sad news of the passing of Raja Randhir Singh, who left for his heavenly abode today, on May 27, 2026.”
The sportsperson Randhir created history by becoming India’s first shooting gold medallist at the Asian Games when he won the trap event in Bangkok in 1978. He has also represented India five times at the Olympics during his shooting career and was also honored with the prestigious Ahun award for his incredible achievements.
