The T20 World Cup match has got everyone hooked; however, yesterday, the moment turned disappointing for cricket fans as India lost the match against the defending champion South Africa on Sunday (February 22, 2026). However, South Africa, on a high note, won the Super Eight Group 1 match, creating history with the heaviest defeat of India by 76 runs.

The match in Ahmedabad saw India struggling to chase 187 runs set by South Africa, with 7 wickets down; the Men in Blue ended up on 111 in 18.5 overs.

Winning the toss, South Africa chose to bat first in the Super 8 T20 World Cup, and the match started with Quinton de Kock Nd Aiden Markram starting the game on the field with batting while Arshdeep Singh was the first bowler for the team.

In the second over, Bumrah knocked out De Kock, and replacing him was Rickelton. While Pandya brings Markram out of the game, Dewalf Brevis joined in 4th place. While Rickelton’s masterstroke landed in Dube’s hand, and with him stepping out, David Miller stepped in.

After a tough start, Brevis and Miller attempted a long partnership after 3 wickets, and soon the score turned from 20/3 in four overs to 73/3 after nine overs. In 12 overs, the partnership of the two brought South Africa to 111/3.

After Brevis and Miller get knocked out of the game, Washington Sundar and Stubbs enter, and while Jansen gets out in one over, the team scores 157/5 at 17 overs. Later, Bosch also goes out, and Stubbs regains the moment, ending South Africa at 187/7 in 20 overs.

However, despite the fluctuating trajectory, South Africa defeated India by 76 runs, a win hailed as historic for the defending champion.
