In the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday (May 9) at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, Mumbai Indians pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah concluded with the highest bowling stats of the ongoing IPL 2022.

Bumrah’s 5 for 10 in 4 overs against KKR put him ahead of Royal Challengers Bangalore spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who had recently finished with 5 for 18 in 4 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai the day before.

Five-wicket hauls are impressive in any version of the game, but taking them in the shortest format is something unique, and the IPL has seen four such hauls this season.

Five bowlers have taken five wickets in a single match: Bumrah, Hasaranga, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Umran Malik. Only 28 five-wicket hauls have been recorded in IPL history.

Meanwhile, till match 56 of IPL 2022, the cash-rich tournament has witnessed 18 four-wicket hauls. Kagiso Rabada and Kuldeep Yadav each had four wickets in two matches, while uncapped youngsters like Mohsin Khan and Kuldeep Sen appear on the list at least once.

Five bowlers have appeared twice in the top 23 bowling innings. Hasaranga, Kuldeep Yadav, Umran Malik, Kagiso Rabada, and Chahal, the current Orange Cap holder, all made the list twice.

After Anil Kumble’s 5 for 5 in 2009, Bumrah’s 5 for 10 is the sixth-best overall and the second-best among Indian bowlers. Former Mumbai Indians’ colleague Bumrah, who is now with Gujarat Titans, tops the list with 6 for 12 statistics.
