Let’s Revisit The Story Of Sachin Tendulkar’s Maiden International Century At Just 17

The former Indian cricketer, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, is one of the greatest, batsmen of all time. He has also served the Indian national cricket team as its captain for a few years. He has done wonders in the fields and scored the highest number of runs in International cricket. The ‘Master Blaster’ was also a great right-arm medium, leg break, and off-break bowler. Tendulkar has experienced a really long journey in international cricket. He was well known for scoring centuries after centuries in the tournaments.

Tendulkar was eleven-year-old when he held the bat in his hand for the first time. At a very young age of sixteen, he made his Test debut in November 1989, against Pakistan. And that’s when he started his international career and served the Indian cricket team for twenty-four years. It was August 1990, when the legendary cricketer got the title of ‘Master Blaster’ for his world-class records. In India’s summer tour to England, Sachin became the third-youngest cricketer to score a century in Test at the age of seventeen. India wasn’t doing well, but he saved the team by scoring a 119, with no out at Old Trafford in Manchester. This maiden century scored by him just at a young age made a huge remark on cricket history.

Last year in 2019, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recalled this memory through a tweet. “#ThisThatDayYear: Rewind to 1990 and the world witnessed @sachin_rt’s maiden international ton. At the tender age of 17, the little master scored his first ton in whites at Old Trafford. What a moment!”, BCCI tweeted.

Later International Cricket Council (ICC) also tweeted, “#OnThisDay in 1990, Sachin Tendulkar made the first of his hundred international hundreds. His unbeaten final-day 119 helped India save the second Test against England at Old Trafford, and made his Test cricket’s third-youngest centurion.”

Sachin’s fans were gobsmacked with nostalgia, and Twitter got flooded with the hashtag ‘#MaidenCentury.’
