If you have a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of others, you will almost certainly be able to achieve your goals. Mary Kom has not only proven this, but she has also exceeded and excelled beyond anyone’s expectations of her. Her parents worked as farm laborers in the little village of Kangathei, Manipur, where she was born. Mary had a difficult childhood, and working and caring for her siblings were both a part of her life. Even though she dropped out of school early, she didn’t let that stop her from pursuing her aspiration.

Her perseverance paid off, and she was awarded a Gold Medal at the Asian Games in 1998. The victory inspired her, and she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a professional boxer with newfound enthusiasm – a decision that would forever transform her life. Her parents were adamant that she not participate in boxing because it was an improper sport for a young girl, but she proved them wrong when she won the National Boxing Championship five times in a row.

Mary Kom not only became a well-known national athlete but a role model for young girls. She was the first Indian woman to win a medal for India in boxing. Through her strength and dedication, Mary Kom became an example for women when she defied the prejudice that married women, particularly mothers, cannot be successful athletes.
