Sourav Ganguly, the former India captain, claimed that it was an accident that caused him to make his Australian opponent Steve Waugh notoriously wait for the toss. Ganguly said that he forgot his blazer in the locker room, but he recognised that the incident had an impact on the Australian camp. “It was focusing on them, the team, and how they went about doing their tasks.”

In an interview with India opener Mayank Agarwal on bcci. tv, the BCCI president remarked, “They were a little unhappy with all of it, and it worked for us because we won the series 2-1.” Ganguly also stated that he is opposed to four-day Tests, which the world governing body has recommended as a method to fit more cricket into an already jam-packed season.

The International Cricket Council has proposed shortening World Test Championship matches by one day starting in 2023, but Ganguly believes officials should not “tinker” with what he considers to be the best form of cricket. The BCCI is one of several detractors of four-day Tests, which have been trialled in one-off games between South Africa and Zimbabwe and England and Ireland.

In an online chat arranged by the BCCI, Ganguly, who turned 48 on Wednesday, said, “I am not a huge admirer of four-day cricket because I feel a lot of Test matches will not conclude.” “When you have four days, you take a different strategy,” he explained. “I genuinely don’t think there’s any need to change those five-day Test matches.” Test matches are, in my opinion, the most difficult and best form of cricket.”
