India is notorious for breaking Australia’s winning streaks regularly, as they demonstrated in their World Cup 2019 match at the Kennington Oval. India triumphed by 36 runs, while Australia failed to chase a World Cup total for the first time since 1999. Before the game against India, Australia had won 19 of its 19 World Cup chases. Their most recent World Cup setback was against Pakistan in a game at Headingley in Leeds, where they fell 11 runs short of the mark. India also ended Australia’s 10-match winning streak in one-day internationals, their longest since 2011. Before this encounter, Australia had won eight consecutive World Cup matches, the second-longest streak in the competition. It was also the first time Australia had to concede 350+ runs in a World Cup, as well as the first time they had to concede 300+ runs when bowling first.

Before meeting India in a four-match Test series in India, Australia had won each of their previous nine Test series. The Australians matched England’s series-winning record from 1884 to 1891. The Australians appeared to be on their way to breaking the 118-year-old record after a close tie in the first game. India, on the other hand, won the second and fourth matches to take the series 2-0. India also won nine consecutive Test series between 2015 and 2017, but no team has ever won ten in a row. Between India’s victory in the 2003 Adelaide Test and the 2008 Perth Test, the Australians went 25 Tests without losing at home.

During this time, the Australians demonstrated their dominance by winning 22 games and drawing three more. The team’s unbeaten record of 25 games is the joint-longest in the league at home. India’s poor bowling led to four straight defeats during their limited-overs tour of Australia in 2016. India was 0-4 down in the five-match series, which had so far produced scores of 290+ in all five games. The Australians were able to extend their unbeaten home run in ODIs to 19 games. This is the longest winning streak for any team, surpassing the West Indians’ run from 1986 to 1990. Australia’s winning streak began in late 2014, and the country’s performance was aided by hosting the World Cup at home. The Australians broke the Windies’ record by exploiting India’s inability to defend large totals. In the last game of the series, India defeated the hosts by chasing down 331 runs, with Manish Pandey getting an unbeaten 104 and Rohit Sharma scoring 99.
