India will need a lot of time to process the devastating loss they faced after Australia crushed the Indian batting lineup like it was a piece of cake. India’s lowest total in the test was 42 up until it became 36/9 during the last test match against the Aussies. India’s batting line up consisted of a steady batsman like Mayank Agarwal, the new wall of India – Cheteshwar Pujara, and our own Captain Kohli. Yet the talent and class of these batsmen weren’t enough to face the mighty pace bowling of Australia which was led by experienced bowlers like Hazelwood and Cummins. They were perfectly supported by the debutant Cameron Green and the backbone of Australian bowling, Mitchell Starc.

During the first innings, Indian batting held up well after the young Prithvi Shaw’s stumps were uprooted by Starc. Even so, the batting was shouldered by the likes of Pujara and Virat alone. Rahane made a crucial 42 runs but the rest of the Indian batting line-up just fell apart. In the second test match, things will be even difficult since Virat Kohli is returning to India. With him gone, India really needs to think more than twice about their batting line-up.

The second inning to Indian batting saw their worst fear in real life. India was all out at 36/9 after Mohammad Shami, the pacer took a blow to his arm while batting and was sent back as ‘retired hurt’. Three players went for a duck including Pujara and Rahane. Later, Australia showed a very positive intent while chasing a 75 run target and chased it with ease by losing only two wickets in the process.
