We have seen quite a few different sides of the Indian cricket team ever since the 1980s. They have been decked in quite a few different shades of blue from light blue to azure, oxford, contemporary, and many more! The Indian cricket team jersey has seen quite a few changes, especially during the 90s. The mid-2000 saw a bit more consistency thanks to the advent of kit sponsor Nike.

India’s tour of Australia in 2020-21, announced a new kit sponsor! This one was a retro-themed one taken from the 1992 World Cup design. It’s a fan favorite all over the world!

Let’s take a closer look at all the changes that the Indian cricket team’s jersey has gone through and refresh all those fond memories, as per a “The Hindu” report!

It was Australia that introduced colored clothing to international cricket! In 1985, India wore a light blue and yellow combination which became a standard in the coming years. It was simple, in terms of kits, logos, sponsors, emblems, and even player names!

By 1991-92, to the relief of every one, two important additions were made, team and player names.

The 1992 World Cup brought about the most popular of kits! India took over Oxford blue while England wore light blue! These dark blue shades stayed even during the South Africa tour. It had blue and yellow stripes across the heart line.

1994’s navy blue and yellow kit donned by Sachin Tendulkar is a one-of-a-kind kit!

It was in 1995 when the kit was found some more for the first time! It was the first time the Indian tri-color, as well as the Ashok Chakra(on their sleeves), made its appearance!

By 1996 everyone returned to a fixed design, and India chose to go back to a light blue. It also featured a yellow collar and thin yellow stripes under the team name.

The 1997 kit had some loud colors.

In 1998, Tendulkar owned this look with a light blue shirt, dark blue trousers, saffron, and green flag colors on both sides.

The 1999 World Cup is where India wore the sky blue again.

By 2000 and 2001, the preferred choice of colors was navy blue and sky blue!

2007 featured an even lighter shade of blue with the tricolor on the right shoulder. Early 2009 switched its light shade for a darker one again.

2013 was the year of a contemporary blue kit with 100% recyclable polyester. These ‘green’ kits continue till the 2015s.

The 2019 World Cup kit was a simple one! It was a dark shade of blue and predominantly orange. Blue upfront and orange on the back and the sleeves.
