The Indian Premier League is, quite simply, the most lucrative, star-studded cricket tournament in the world. Right from the first match to the finals, it is full of unexpected runs, chases, bowling and fielding from domestic and international players. One of the most attended cricket leagues in the world, Indian Premier League is packed with entertainment and has had its moments of fun as well as ugly moments. During the 2013 IPL, Delhi cricketers, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir got into an ugly on-field fight.

In 2013, Virat Kohli was leading Royal Challengers Banglore and Gautam Gambhir was the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. In a match when these two teams came opposite each other there was a fight between the two captains. KKR scored 155 in 20 overs and RCB had to chase the score. However, the talking point of the match wasn’t the score but the public altercation between the skippers. With the score of RCB 75-1 after 9 overs, Virat Kohli went for a wild slash at Laxmipathy Balaji’s delivery. However, he couldn’t make it and was caught at the sweeper cover region.

Instead of walking towards the pavilion, Kohli walked towards the bowler and made a remark towards him. Gambhir lost it as they took the opposite teams sledging in good spirits in the earlier inning and came to his bowler’s defence. Neither of the skippers backed down and soon a shouting match ensued. The pair were finally stopped by Rajat Bhatia who got between them and calmed Gambhir.

The incident didn’t affect the relationship between the cricketers but surely raised the viewership of IPL.
