Some things in life are expensive, some are priceless. For Kanika Maheshwari, her black car was never about its price, its model or even the comfort it offered. It was a piece of her father’s love, a birthday gift that turned into one of the most emotionally precious possessions of her life. And today, having to sell that very car has left the actress in deep sorrow. What makes the goodbye harder is knowing that she is not simply letting go of a car, but of something that carries a part of her papa’s love and countless memories.

Talking about the emotional value of the car, Kanika says, “My black car has always been extremely special to me because it was gifted to me by my papa on my birthday. There are some gifts that you can never look at as just objects because the emotion behind them is much bigger. Every time I looked at my car, I saw my papa’s love and that beautiful birthday memory. That is what makes selling it so difficult for me.”

Over the years, the car quietly became a part of Kanika’s everyday life. It was there during her busy work schedules, long drives, personal moments and countless journeys that may have seemed ordinary at the time but slowly became memories. It witnessed different phases of her life without ever asking for anything in return. “There are so many memories attached to this car that saying goodbye to it is genuinely painful. You can prepare yourself financially or practically for a decision, but emotionally, it is never that simple. Still, sometimes life leaves you with no choice. I have to let it go, even though a part of me wants to hold on to it,” she shares.

For Kanika, this goodbye is also a reminder of how unpredictable life can be. The things we believe will stay with us forever can sometimes become chapters that we have to close. She says, “We often think that the people, things and moments that are important to us will always remain exactly where they are. But life keeps changing. Sometimes people leave, sometimes circumstances change, and sometimes we have to say goodbye to things we never thought we would have to lose. A goodbye is a must for anything that has to leave your life. It hurts, but accepting it is also a part of moving forward.”

Yet, perhaps the most beautiful part of Kanika’s story is that the memory cannot be sold. The car may soon belong to somebody else, but the emotion behind the birthday gift will remain hers forever. “I may have to sell the car, but I can never sell the memories attached to it. The car can leave my life, but what my papa’s gift meant to me will never leave my heart. Maybe one day I will look back at this moment and realise that I did not really lose the memory. I simply had to let go of the thing that carried it. Some goodbyes take away an object, but they can never take away the love behind it,” Kanika concludes.
