It has been a long wait to see you as the Dakini. How does it feel?
Yes, finally, we are in action, and I will be on screen as the Dakini. It has been a great journey of prepping for the character. Now, we get into real action space, and I can’t wait.
Adapting to what the character is has been a grinding experience, but one that gives me the utmost satisfaction.
What kind of preparations did you have to do to get into the skin of the character?
I have been part of this show for a long time now. Humongous work has gone behind creating Madhumati and her traits. There were a lot of discussions on her look and her mannerisms. Adapting to what the character is has been a grinding experience, but one that gives me the utmost satisfaction. From the walk, the way she talks, to her mannerisms, I have prepped hard to get into the skin of the character.
Have you taken any inspiration to play this role?
I always love to have an inspiration. But in this case, I have seen a lot, and heard a lot about such characters. However, I believe I will be in a better space if I create my own version, which will be a mix of everything I have learned over the last few months.
Tell us more about Dakini as a character.
She is a pure soul who has loved deeply. She has been betrayed and pained by the same man she has loved. So there is this pain that she carries which will come out in her emotions. Madhumati is multi-layered; you will not see her as just the typical ghost. In her golden days, she was a magician, and a beautiful dancer, and there is more too to her.
How does it feel to step into the supernatural genre space for the first time?
I have never been a part of any supernatural genre before. So it feels exciting to play the titular role in Aami Dakini. I am eager to depict the varied levels of emotions, the pain caused by betrayal, sheer love and moods of revenge too, that my character possesses.
How long does it take for you to get into the character?
The shoot process on set is a long-drawn-out one every day. It takes more than two hours for me to get ready and get in my getup daily. But I am ready for the ordeal. A lot of time goes into creating her – her costumes, application of alta on the forehead and arms, and her hair work take so much time. But when I glance at her in the mirror, and see how gracefully stunning she turns out to be, I feel that all the wait is worth it when I live this role.
What do you have to tell the audience?
Well, I am excited to bring this character in front of the audience. I have huge expectations from this role and show. As always, I want all to shower their love on me and enjoy the depth of my character.
