Parineeta Borthakur, who portrays Chandrika Singh Chauhan in Zee TV’s Vasudha, produced by Arvind Babbal Productions, shares insights about her character as a devoted mother striving to provide the best for her son, Devansh Singh Chauhan. She highlights the relatability of the story, noting that her character embodies imperfections, much like the realities of everyday life.
She talks at length about the ongoing track in the show in this exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com. She says, “I think the track is very interesting because both Vasudha and I (Chandrika) want the best for Dev. Every parent wants the best for their child. Sometimes their decision may not be correct for the child, but the intention of the parent is always for the child’s benefit. But when the parents realise that what their child had decided is correct, they accept it.”
Vasudha, as a show, has been unique as it did not have a negative-shaded character. But the recent track does not show Chandrika and Vasudha as totally ‘white’. Reacting to this, Parineeta states, “I think in Vasudha, the characters are real. They are not portrayed as perfectionists, and that’s the beauty of the show and the characters. No one is perfect in real life. One can try to do everything correctly, but as a human being, everyone has imperfections.”
She enjoyed bringing out the emotions of her character in the recent drama. “It’s been a pleasure because it’s not monotonous, and there is something interesting to look forward to every day.”
On the response for this track where there have been sea changes in characters’ perceptions, she quips, “Initially, people were unhappy that Chandrika was turning negative. But Chandrika is not negative, and she will never be negative. She is a very strong woman who notices everything, wants perfection, is impartial, and never lets anything wrong happen. Yet she’s a human, a mother with all the emotions.”
With relationships getting complex, we ask her what can be expected next, to which she says, “Relationships are always complex, even in real life, and I think Vasudha, as a show, shows quite real in terms of emotions instead of over drama.”
When asked whether she will want Chandrika to turn negative, she is quick to say, “No. Chandrika Singh Chauhan should not turn negative; that will destroy the fairness, the honesty, the impartiality of the character, and it will also make the audience feel cheated.”
Explaining about her initial dilemma towards this track, she says, “Initially, I was a bit confused, and I asked our creative director why Chandrika was doing all this. I wanted to be clear. As an actor, I told them that if the character is turning negative, they need to tell me; so that I will be clear in my head and play it freely. But they made me understand that everything was coming from the mother inside Chandrika Singh Chauhan, the mother who dreamt of an educated girl for her son, apart from a thousand other dreams. Chandrika is not negative; she can’t be.”
