Halloween is more than just costumes and candy; it is a celebration of our fascination with the unknown. It is a night when stepping out of our comfort zones becomes an art form, and everyone gets to play a character, whether they are channelling classic cinematic icons or inventing entirely new nightmares of their own. Young actor Harshit Joshi, who plays Sid in Star Plus’ Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, believes that the spirit of Halloween brings out a wonderfully creative, offbeat perspective.
When asked if he would ever want to step into the shoes of a classic movie monster, Harshit reveals a true creator’s mindset. “Stepping into the shoes of a classic movie monster would be none; in fact, I would love to scare and create my own that would scare the bejesus out of people… maybe I’ll try that with you one day in a dark, surprising environment… I would choose my own creation.”
When discussing whether real-life creeps or on-set frights have ever haunted him, Harshit keeps it grounded, saying, “No, there has been no scary or creepy thing happened to me in life or on set to be honest, so don’t wanna lie here.”
When it comes to the classic horror trope of screaming in terror, Harshit admits it is a tough emotion to fake authentically, preferring instead to rely on his signature intense screen presence. “Screaming in pure terror would be harder to pull for me because I can give a cold, unsettling stare all day… cam or no cam.”
Harshit’s ideal Halloween look is wonderfully minimalist yet deeply unsettling, playing on shadow and anonymity. “My favourite Halloween costume would be a black full-sized cardigan with a hoodie where I am covered entirely, and one can only see [eyes]—this makes it even more scary as to what is that walking and all… proper frightening vibes.”
For Harshit, the ideal late-night viewing is all about comedy-horror comfort. “A comfortable scary Halloween watch would be a scary movie or spoofs on horror because those would be pure jokes.”
