Soma Rathod, who is seen in Zee TV‘s Tumm Se Tumm Tak, produced by Studio LSD, finds that the characters offering her the deepest emotional range are often the ones closest to ordinary, everyday life.

Speaking about her role of Pushpa in the show, she said, “I have had the opportunity to portray many different shades within a single role. I am a middle-class woman, a mother, and a wife. I live in a society where I am conscious of social expectations and where I also feel the need to show people that I am doing well, that my family is doing well, and that we are better than others.”

“We may have many flaws inside our household, but whenever something new comes into our lives, I feel the need to show it to the neighbourhood and let people know that we have it. In that sense, I am just an ordinary woman,” she added.

When asked what she has learned about relationships and emotions through the characters she has played, she said, “I feel that I learn more from real life than from the characters I play, and then I bring those experiences into my performances. The reason is that I have seen many ups and downs in life.”

She spoke about the range of experiences that have shaped her over the years, from small towns to big cities. She said, “I have experienced village life and life in small towns, and now I am experiencing life in a metro city as well. I have lived among all kinds of people, from different communities and backgrounds. I can also speak seven or eight languages.”

Tying it all back to her craft, she added, “Because of all these experiences, I feel that what I have learned in real life is what I bring onto the screen. I do not learn from my characters; I learn from life itself. When a script comes to me, I add my own touch to it based on those experiences.”
