Smriti Khaannaa, who was last seen in the TV show Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal, has been part of Indian television long enough to know how much it demands and how quickly it moves. Her career started much earlier, and the beginning still holds weight.
She said, “I’ll always be grateful for my first show, Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann, on Zee TV. That’s where my journey started. And Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal was special because it pushed me out of my comfort zone.”
What she’s looking for now is specific. She said, “I’m looking for roles with emotional depth and layers, characters that feel real. I’d love to play a strong police officer someday, someone with both toughness and vulnerability.”
Smriti sees an industry that has shifted fast, and she doesn’t think standing still is an option. She said, “The industry has changed a lot, and we as actors have to evolve with it. TV moves fast now: stories, formats, and audience tastes. I believe those who don’t adapt risk getting left behind.”
The daily soap format, in particular, tests actors in ways most people don’t see. She said, “Daily soaps are intense, long hours, quick changes, and constant pressure to perform. But that’s the nature of TV. My perspective is simple: if you can’t change the system, learn to enjoy the process. The love from the audience makes it worth it.”
If acting hadn’t happened, Smriti knows exactly where she would have ended up. She said, “I think I would have been a writer. I love storytelling, and writing lets you create entire worlds. It’s another way of performing, just with a pen instead of on camera.”
