As the world gears up to celebrate International Yoga Day, Star Plus show Anupamaa fame actress Adrija Roy is embracing the practice not just as a fitness routine, but as a way of life. Amid long shooting hours, packed schedules, and the emotional demands of acting, yoga has become her anchor, helping her stay balanced both mentally and physically.
Sharing a glimpse of her wellness routine, Adrija reveals that her vanity van often doubles up as a mini yoga studio. “Honestly, my vanity van yoga is very basic and calm. I don’t try to do anything fancy there. It’s mostly stretching, a few Surya Namaskars, and some breathing. Sometimes, even just sitting quietly with my eyes closed for 10 minutes helps. The space is small, but I’ve learned that yoga doesn’t need a big setup, just a little intention,” she says.
Finding time for self-care can be challenging in the entertainment industry, but the actress believes consistency matters more than perfection. “It’s not easy at all, and I don’t do it every single day perfectly. But I try to steal small moments. Even if it’s 15–20 minutes before my call time or after pack-up. I’ve realised it’s not about long hours, it’s about consistency. Even a little bit makes a difference in how I feel,” Adrija shares.
For an actor, breath control and emotional balance are essential, and Adrija credits yoga and pranayama for helping her navigate emotionally intense scenes with greater ease. “Yes, a lot. Earlier, I used to get very overwhelmed during emotional scenes. But now, because of breathing exercises, I can control my emotions better without losing the intensity. Pranayama really helps me stay present in the moment. It keeps me grounded, especially during heavy scenes,” she explains.
While yoga has encouraged healthier lifestyle choices, Adrija admits she still enjoys indulging occasionally. “(Laughs) I’m still human, so yes, I do crave cheat meals! But yoga has made me more aware of what I’m putting into my body. I try to eat clean most of the time, but I don’t restrict myself too much. Balance is important. If I want something, I’ll have it, just not every day,” she says.
The actress also acknowledges the role yoga and meditation play in helping her cope with the pressures of public life, including criticism and online negativity. “Yoga and meditation have really helped me not react instantly. Earlier, small things used to affect me a lot. Now I’ve learned to pause, breathe, and let things go. It gives me a kind of inner strength. I won’t say it doesn’t affect me at all, but I don’t carry that negativity with me anymore,” says Adrija.
This International Yoga Day, Adrija is setting a new personal goal—making meditation a non-negotiable part of her daily routine. “I really want to be more regular with meditation. I’ve done it on and off, but I want to make it a daily habit now. Even if it’s just 10 minutes a day, I think it can bring a lot of clarity and peace. That’s something I truly want to work on this Yoga Day,” she concludes.
