Gulki Joshi, who essays the role of Dr Srishti in Sony SAB’s Hui Gumm Yaadein, holds a highly practical approach to wellness. On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Gulki exclaims that she has mastered the art of the micro-workout.
“My vanity van routine is very simple and practical,” Gulki reveals. “I usually start with a few stretches for my neck, shoulders, and back because long shooting hours can make the body quite stiff. Then I do a few rounds of Surya Namaskar if space allows, followed by 5–10 minutes of Pranayama. Even 15 minutes can completely reset my energy for the day.”
Gulki credits ancient breathwork as her primary tool for maintaining creative control. “Acting demands that you access emotions without getting lost in them. Pranayama has helped me understand my breath and stay present in difficult scenes. It allows me to go deep emotionally while still maintaining control, which is incredibly valuable as an actor.”
For Gulki, meditation acts as a protective psychological boundary. “Meditation has taught me the difference between what is happening around me and what is happening within me,” Gulki reflects groundedly. “The external noise never completely disappears, but yoga helps me respond rather than react. It reminds me that my self-worth cannot be determined by comments, opinions, or fleeting trends.”
While her practice keeps her mindful, Gulki refuses to compromise on her love for food, steering clear of unrealistic dietary restrictions. “Yoga definitely makes me more mindful about what I eat, but I’m also a complete foodie! Most of the time, I naturally gravitate towards lighter, nourishing meals, but if there’s a good mango cake or a plate of chaat around, I’m not pretending to be a saint. Balance is my mantra.”
“This Yoga Day, I want to build a more consistent meditation practice,” she concludes. “Physical yoga has become a part of my routine, but I’d love to spend more time sitting in silence, disconnecting from screens, and reconnecting with myself. I think that’s the real luxury these days.”
Be aware of body wellness and work towards it, this International Yoga Day!!
