Over the years, Vijayendra Kumeria has carved a space for himself with a wide range of roles on television. Whether it is an intense emotional scene or a physically demanding sequence, the actor has consistently impressed viewers with his screen presence. Away from the camera, he is equally committed to staying fit, and yoga has become one of the biggest reasons behind that commitment.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Vijayendra spoke about the role yoga plays in his daily life and why he considers it essential for both his mind and body. For Vijayendra, yoga is closely connected to his work as an actor.
Talking about its impact, he said, “In our profession, it is very important to be present in the moment while performing scenes. Yoga has helped me control my breathing and concentrate on my work. I don’t get exhausted mentally, all thanks to yoga. If we talk about the physical aspect, yoga has helped me with flexibility, agility and reflexes. I feel 10 years younger than my age, and I think that translates on screen too.”
The actor pointed out that while people often associate yoga with physical fitness, he values the mental benefits just as much. He feels that being able to focus on the task at hand without getting distracted has helped him in his professional journey. The improvement in flexibility and stamina has been an added advantage.
Shooting schedules can often stretch for long hours, leaving actors physically tired and mentally drained. Vijayendra admitted that handling pressure becomes easier when he follows his yoga routine regularly.
I started practising yoga during the corona lockdown, but since then I have made yoga a part of my daily routine.
Sharing how it helps him during demanding workdays, he said, “Yes, yoga does help you maintain balance, as meditation is one key part of yoga. I keep calm in chaotic situations, and it helps me be in the scene, ignoring the surroundings.”
Interestingly, Vijayendra was not always a regular practitioner. His introduction to yoga came during a period when the world had slowed down.
“I started practising yoga during the corona lockdown, but since then I have made yoga a part of my daily routine,” he concluded.
