How do you feel to be back on-screen with Sasural Simar Ka 2?

It feels great to be back with super-duper channel Colors which I have a long association with. I was waiting for something good to return to the channel and I am glad the makers and channel thought of a sequel of such a hit show. When I was offered the role, I was a little skeptical, but when I learnt about the entire character graph, I was left amazed. I feel honoured to be a part of such a cult project.

How will be Sasural Simar Ka 2 different from the previous season?

Let me first tell the similarities between the two seasons. Dipika Kakar, the original Simar, is part of the show for now. However, Sasural Simar Ka 2’s story is of Mataji’s twin sister Geetanjali Devi (Jayati Bhatia) and her family, thus the difference in this season. It has a similar flavour but is treated in a unique manner with new characters. I am fortunate to play Jayati’s on-screen son in the storyline.

Tell us something about your character that makes it unique…

My character of Giriraj Oswal is very different from all the roles I have played on-screen. It is unique because villains are those who create obstacles for people whom he hates. However, it is the first time a son doesn’t like his mother. Indian sons have a special place for their mothers in their hearts. I believe to even have a thought in your mind that you don’t like your mother is difficult to digest. Giriraj has extreme hatred for his mother Geetanjali. Giriraj tries his best to get the property and on her face, he is a loving son. It is extremely challenging to portray this character.

Do you have any pressure with regards to the sequel?

No, we all are treating Sasural Simar Ka 2 as a fresh show. We all are very confident about our product and we are going with the flow. The story is powerful with an interesting and exciting cast. The channel, producer, and writer have created a superlative show and they are pioneers hence there is no pressure at all. We know we have a great show and we shall succeed.

What are your expectations from the show?

We all expect the show to be successful like the previous one. We want audiences to shower the same amount of love. Whatever we have shot till now, after looking at it, I feel we have a hit in our hand and rest, we live to the audiences.

Did you go through any physical transformation for the role?

Yes, if you see my earlier characters, I haven’t had a mustache or stubble or beard. Be it positive or negative, somehow I have always been clean shaved in all my characters. I thought of having a stubble for this role to make it look royal and stand out.

How has it been to work with the cast, co-stars?

This is the first time that I am working with Rashami Sharma and Pawan ji. I am really fortunate and thankful to them for this opportunity. They are hardworking producers who have done amazing shows. Our director is Yash, who is very cool. His approach is amazing and we are fortunate to be working with him. He treats his unit as a family. I would say that a lot of directors can take tips to be cool and get the best stuff out of talent. I and Jayati ji have known each other since a long time. She is a wonderful co-star. It is great to be working with her. I have connected well with Dipika, she is very sweet and hardworking. Vibha Bhagat, who plays my wife, is dedicated. We worked together in Swabhimaan and it is great to reunite with her. The younger lot is apt for the role. I look forward to working more with them.

Any final message?

I know these times are terrible during the pandemic. It is important everyone stays safe by following all the protocols. The world is fighting several battles so make your loved ones happy. Do watch the show. Don’t hate me and even if you hate me, you are loving me. Show your love on social media. Thank you all!
