Actor, television host, and mindfulness coach Sara Arfeen Khan—known for her roles in popular television shows like Dhoondh Legi Manzil Humein, Siya Ke Ram, Jamai Raja, and her memorable stint on Bigg Boss 18—has always maintained a grounded, authentic approach to life. Ahead of Friendship Day, Sara reflects on what genuine connection means in an industry often labelled as hyper-competitive, sharing her thoughts on loyalty, co-star bonds, and the friends who keep her grounded.
When asked about the one friend in her life who looks past the glamour and star status to offer honest feedback, Sara points to a close personal bond. “That has to be my chef friend, Yasmin Qureshi. She genuinely couldn’t care less about the celebrity tag. If she feels I’m wrong, she’ll tell me exactly that without sugarcoating it. And I value that because real friends don’t just clap for you; they also hold up a mirror when you need it. Those are the people who keep you grounded.”
Sara believes time and consistency are the ultimate tests of any relationship. Reflecting on her core support system within the industry, she shares, “Honestly, I don’t believe in testing friendships. I believe in being the kind of friend I would want in my own life. Time is the biggest test. It always reveals people’s intentions and loyalty. I give relationships my hundred per cent, but trust is earned over time. If someone values and respects the friendship, they’ll stay. If they don’t, they don’t lose me… they lose my trust.”
She adds, “I’m grateful that I’ve been blessed with some wonderful people in the industry. Friends like Alice Kaushik, Divya Agarwal, Akshaya Shetty, and Rajat Dalal have genuinely been my core strength through different phases of my life. They remind me that even in an industry that’s often seen as competitive, real friendships do exist. At the end of the day, loyalty, consistency, and showing up for each other matter far more than words ever can.”
Sharing set memories with senior actors, Sara highlights her deep fondness for spending quality time off-camera, “I’ve always loved spending time with Soni Razdan. She’s incredibly warm, wise, and so easy to talk to. Our green-room conversations were rarely about work. We’d usually sit over a cup of our favourite tea and talk about life, books, experiences, family, and everything in between. Those simple conversations are the ones I remember the most.”
In an industry where peers often compete for the same roles, Sara approaches professional rivalry with grace and confidence. “I’ve never looked at life from a place of insecurity. I genuinely believe what’s meant for me will never pass me by. So if we’re auditioning for the same role, I can still wish someone well. Competition doesn’t bother me because I don’t measure my journey against someone else’s. There’s enough space for everyone to shine.”
Over years of working in showbiz, Sara’s perception of true friendship has shifted from proximity to purpose and emotional depth. “Earlier, I thought friendships were about always being around each other. Today, I know they’re about consistency, honesty, and showing up when it matters. A true friend celebrates your wins without jealousy, stands by you during your lows, and never makes you feel like you have to earn their love. The industry taught me that not everyone who smiles at you is your friend—but the few genuine ones are priceless.”
For Sara, the ideal hangout with genuine friends is defined by comfort and zero judgment. “A safe space is where I don’t have to perform or prove anything. I can be Sara—not the actor, not the public figure, just me. We laugh, have honest conversations, sit in comfortable silence if we want to, and know there’s zero judgment. Those are the friendships I value the most because they give me peace, not pressure.”
Concluding on a grateful note, Sara dedicates a special shout-out to actor Kashmera Shah for her steadfast support. “I’d love to thank Kashmera Shah. She’s always been incredibly supportive and has stood by me whenever I’ve needed her. People often see her as fierce and outspoken, but behind that strong exterior is someone with the purest heart.
