In an era where viewing habits are rapidly evolving, actor Samridhii Shukla, who plays the role of Abhira in Star Plus and Rajan Shahi’s Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, believes that one factor continues to remain timeless in the world of entertainment: the ability to connect with the audience. With television and OTT platforms offering a wide range of content, the actress feels that there is space for every kind of storytelling as long as it succeeds in entertaining viewers.

Sharing her perspective on the growing popularity of OTT content, Samridhii says that audiences today are open to exploring stories that feel different and refreshing. “When it comes to entertainment, there are no fixed rules that say it has to be realistic or completely imaginary. At the end of the day, we watch television, films or shows to feel entertained and emotionally connected. That connection is what truly matters,” she says.

According to the actress, the success of OTT platforms lies in their ability to offer novelty. “People are watching OTT shows now not just because they reflect reality, but because they bring something new to the table. That freshness is what attracts viewers. However, that does not mean that the earlier style of storytelling did not work or has lost its charm,” she explains.

Samridhii also points out that larger-than-life storytelling continues to be loved by audiences across generations. “Even today, we enjoy cinema where action and emotions are exaggerated. Those moments may not happen in real life, but they make us feel something. Entertainment does not need a strict definition. It simply needs to give happiness, emotions and moments that stay with you, whether through drama, romance or action,” she shares.

Speaking about her own journey as an actor, Samridhii maintains a straightforward approach. “My only focus is to work and grow. I do not put any limitations on myself when it comes to roles or platforms,” she states.

For Samridhii, acting is ultimately about the craft. “If I get a meaningful role and good work, I am happy to do it. Our job as actors is to live the character and do justice to the story, irrespective of where it is being told. I just want to continue doing honest and good work,” she concludes.
