Shubhaavi Choksey who has become a cult figure owing to her mighty personality of Mohini Basu in Kasautii Zindagii Kay aims to break the shackles of being typecast in roles elder to her real age.
Says Shubhaavi, “I don’t know what life has in store for me. To break my image as Mohini Basu, I think I will have to do roles which are of my age group. I’ll have to do roles which portray the real Shubhaavi. I wear denims, shorts, T-Shirts in real life. So if I am able to play my age roles on screen, I think it would be easier for me to break my on-screen image as Mohini Basu.”
On the kind of genre Shubhaavi is looking at, she states, “I am really looking at comedy, action, romance. I’m possibly looking at every genre where I will be the central character. I want to play something substantial yet different and challenging.”
On thoughts of being part of the web platform, Shubhaavi exclaims, “I will be a game for film, a theatre project or a web series also. For me, I want to learn as an actor. Every project that I do has something or the other for me to learn as an actor. I won’t mind even doing a Broadway. I would love to dance and sing.”
Can we see you in a role that’s apt for your age? “Fingers crossed! If people see me in real life they would offer me roles of my age only. And I think even the audiences should also accept it, which I think is done or not done.”
On her thoughts on being typecast in a particular role, She explains, “If I would have been weary, I don’t think I would have played Hiten Tejwani’s mother in Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. I am the kind of a person, who will take whatever comes my way and is interesting and is in my comfort zone. But it is now that I want to get out of my comfort zone. Now, I want to try something new consciously. I always have been the type going with the tides. But this is for the first time I am going to go against the tide of my thoughts for my career. I am not going to go with the flow.”
Is there a dream role in your mind? “As I say, I am extremely greedy. I want to do action; I want to hold a sword and fight. Do somersaults and jump from the height and land safely on my feet. I want to hold a gun and not blink my eyes while shooting. I want to wear tight pants and ride a bike, get down from it and remove my shades.”
