World Environment Day, celebrated each year on June 5, is the largest and most significant international event dedicated to environmental awareness. This annual observance, recognized by the United Nations, unites millions of individuals from all corners of the globe in a collective effort to protect and rejuvenate our planet. It serves as a powerful platform that inspires governments, businesses, communities, and individuals to take action and foster sustainable practices. Through various initiatives and activities, people work together to champion the cause of environmental conservation, aiming to drive meaningful and lasting change for the health of our Earth. Actor Sachin Parikh who plays the role of Prabhat Singh Chauhan in the Zee TV show Vasudha talks about the conscious effort he has made as a parent to educate his children about environmental hazards and the need to keep the surroundings healthy and clean.

He says, “Plastic has quietly crept into almost every corner of our lives — and as a parent, I have always made a conscious effort to keep it away from my children. From the very beginning, my wife and I chose toys and essentials made from wood, cloth, or other natural materials. We wanted their surroundings to feel safe, real, and lasting. Unlike plastic toys, which often contain harmful chemicals and break easily, wooden and fabric toys are sturdier, toxin-free, and kinder to both children and the planet. It gave us peace of mind, especially in those early years when kids explore the world by touching, chewing, and playing freely. That early habit shaped the way we live even today.”

He further continues by saying, “We continue to make thoughtful choices — from everyday items to school supplies — opting for things that last longer and don’t contribute to the growing burden of plastic waste. This World Environment Day, I truly believe that raising environmentally responsible children begins with the choices we make at home. Let’s lead by example, because the values we pass on today will shape the world they inherit tomorrow.”
