In today’s fast-paced world, where stress often lurks around every corner and daily routines can feel overwhelmingly demanding, prioritising self-care has never been more vital for our mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Self-care encompasses a wide range of proactive measures that individuals can take to nurture and enhance their overall health, creating a balanced life amidst the chaos. Each year, Self-Care Month is celebrated from June 24 to July 24, culminating in International Self-Care Day on July 24. This special day serves as a poignant reminder that self-care is not just a periodic indulgence but a continuous, 24/7 commitment to oneself. Anushka Merchande, who plays the role of Anika in Zee TV’s Saru, claims that self-care has always been a big priority in her life.
She says, “Self-care has always been a part of my life, not just as something I do for myself today, but as something rooted in my earliest memories. I still remember those Sunday mornings from childhood running barefoot through the house with my cousins, playing games for hours, our laughter echoing through every room. In the middle of all the chaos, my mother would gently remind us to pause and drink water. That simple habit of staying hydrated has stayed with me and continues to support my energy and well-being, even on the busiest of days.”
She adds on, “Even today, I carry my sipper with me wherever I go, even on the sets of Saru. Skincare too has been a quiet ritual passed down through generations. I have never believed in complicated routines.”
Talking about her skin care methods, she says, “Just 10 mindful minutes at night, using desi, homemade recipes like haldi face packs made with my sisters, is all it takes to unwind. This Self-Care Month, I feel everyone should reconnect with the little things, give yourselves just 30 minutes a day, to yourself – to do the things you love. Because self-care is not indulgence—it is a return to balance.”
