On the occasion of International Women’s Day, actor Soma Rathod, who plays Pushpa in the Zee TV show Tumm Se Tumm Tak, produced by Studio LSD, speaks about womanhood, empowerment, and the importance of support and equality.
Talking about how she would describe women in just one line, Soma says, “Women are the quiet strength that hold everything together. They are resilient, caring, and incredibly strong.”
Women on the set of Tumm Se Tumm Tak celebrate each other’s strengths and stand by one another, which creates a very positive and uplifting environment.
When asked what men can do to truly support the women in their lives, Soma believes the answer is simple. “The most helpful thing men can do is listen and respect women’s opinions. Sometimes women don’t need solutions — they just need to feel heard and understood.”
The actor also shares something about women that she deeply admires. “I have seen women manage work, family, and emotions at the same time and still stay strong. That level of patience and emotional strength is something truly special.”
Soma also credits her mother as her biggest inspiration growing up. “My mother has always been my inspiration. Watching her strength, sacrifices, and the way she handled every responsibility with grace taught me a lot about resilience and determination. She shaped the person I am today.”
Talking about how the meaning of an empowered woman has changed over time, Soma explains, “Earlier, empowerment was about proving that women can do what men do. Today, it means having the freedom to choose your own path — whether it is career, family, or both.”
She believes empowerment today is about equality and respect. “Women should have the same opportunities to grow, succeed, and make their own decisions.”
Soma also shares how supportive the women on the sets of Tumm Se Tumm Tak are. “I feel very lucky because on our set, all the women are extremely supportive of each other. There is a lot of mutual respect, encouragement, and understanding. We celebrate each other’s strengths and stand by one another, which creates a very positive and uplifting environment.”
Soma also speaks about the changes society still needs to make. “We need to move away from stereotypes and start treating men and women equally in every space — at home, at work, and in society. Boys and girls should grow up learning the same values of respect and independence.”
She concludes by saying, “Women’s Day will truly become a celebration when equality is natural, and women no longer have to fight for their space.”
