Colors as a channel has been churning out realistic tales with gripping story plots and good performances. The same can be said of Krishna Mohini, the newly launched show produced by Boyhood Productions. This is a bold experiment and is a differentiator in terms of story plots that are woven around similar tales. Krishna Mohini depicts the strong and absorbing bond between a sister and her brother, given a scenario where the brother has a major gender identity issue.

Krishna the elder sister is the strong pillar of support for Mohan who has the voice and appearance of a boy but has the inborn mannerisms of a girl. Amid such a major setback dwells the relationship of this sister and brother. The sister is the guiding force of the brother and stands tall as he faces the adversities of society and questions him on his physical features.

The characterization given to the siblings Krishna and Mohan is brilliant, with reality striking hard when viewers see their problems. The defying aspect of this show has to be the challenges that the siblings face and how the elder sister provides the much-needed support to her brother.

The story has already shown viewers the inclination of Mohan towards dance and how he feels comfortable in the skin of a girl while dancing. This in itself, is a bold concept to tackle and kudos to the channel and makers for choosing to show such a daring subject on Indian television. It will be interesting to see the transformation of Mohan to Mohini (we assume this based on the title of Krishna Mohini).

Of course, a strong and selfless character like Krishna needs the perfect soulmate in life. The character of Aryaman too has been etched with his share of disappointments, grief and fightbacks. His childhood dream of doing well in music is crushed when his father becomes an escapist, running away from the problems of his home. Aryaman is forced to accept the responsibilities of his house from a young age and hates his father for ruining his vested interests in life.

Krishna and Aryaman are connected through the world of music as Aryaman sees himself when he sees Krishna singing. The beauty of this concept is that, soon Aryaman will join Krishna in her battle against society to give her brother a peaceful world to live in.

The unique concept has been shouldered by natural performers. Debattama Saha is exceptional as Krishna. She is surely the guiding force, all set to light the show. Fahmaan Khan as Aryaman has the range of emotions as a performer to pull off this complex role.

The standout, we should say, is Ketaki Kulkarni, who has invested a lot in this unique character of Mohan. From giving her consent to play a boy to accepting a character with complexities as big as gender identity issues, the actress has created her own path to success. She excels in her body language as Mohan.

Exceptional performances and the challenges related to the broad concept of the show make the show a winner all the way. However, it is to be emphasized that this is a pathbreaker of a concept and moves away from the usual grind that TV follows. Hence, it is a known fact that it is made keeping in mind, the big risk factor. This experiment needs to work and for this, the viewers will have to show love to this unique thought process.

We at IWMBuzz.com see it scoring high and we credit it with 3.5 stars out of 5.
