Casting is the invisible backbone of television. A brilliant script can be entirely derailed by a mismatched actor, while the right casting can elevate a simple premise into a cultural phenomenon. A casting director’s first job is to cast actors who fit into the essence of a particular character, rather than just go by the description.
Casting Director Amrish Sharma, who has been in the entertainment industry for decades, cast for innumerable TV projects like Hatim, Devon Ke Dev.. Mahadev, Siya Ke Ram, Chandrakanta and many more recently created history by casting a real-life handicapped person for a character who is crippled for Zee TV’s upcoming show, Tu Hi Re Dil Mein. Produced by Film & Shots Productions, the show features Abrar Qazi, Priyanshi Yadav and Simran Rawal as the leads. It revolves around a complex, emotionally driven love triangle shaped by duty, sacrifice, and the unpredictable twists of destiny.
There was a casting requirement for a handicapped person to play the cousin brother of the female lead. Amrish’s extensive search became Rajeev Singh’s debut show on TV as an actor. Rajeev hails from Kanpur. Rajeev as well as Amrish created history as this is the first casting in Indian television of a handicapped actor for a like-minded role.
Talking about it, Casting Director Amrish Sharma told IWMBuzz.com, “The channel wanted the cast for this character to be realistic; this pushed me to look for a person who was crippled in real life.”
This is a feat for sure!! Here’s wishing the actor all the very best!!
