Bigg Boss 18 is now underway and unlike the previous seasons, the list of contestants this time is much longer than usual keeping the idea of season 18 intact, there are 18 contestants to look at this time across all facets, and one such contestant is Chum Darang. The lady, hailing from Arunachal Pradesh is a model, actress and social activist.
In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz, Darang opened up on why is it important to do a show like Bigg Boss, her favourite contestants from the previous seasons, how to deal with fights and so on.
Q. How did Bigg Boss 18 happen to you? And how important do you think is the show for your journey?
Chum: Most importantly, I am considering Bigg Boss 18 to be a journey and a platform for more people to know me and my home, which is in Arunachal Pradesh. I want to represent my home. So many people watch Bigg Boss and hence, I hope more people will get to know about me and the North-east.
Q. How do you plan to do that? Showing Arunachal Pradesh on the big stage by showcasing its tradition or in a different manner?
Chum: Generally, people from Arunachal Pradesh are very warm, kind and gentle people, and that’s what I am as well. So, I just hope that people will see that side of mine and will like it. I will also be using some of my traditional clothes which I have carried on a few instances.
Q. Bigg Boss is known to have people fighting with each other often. How do you fit into that dynamic and how much do you believe you will be able to do that when the situation demands?
Chum: From what I know of myself, I don’t think I will be fighting with anyone per se but I will keep my opinion. I will make sure to keep my stand and if at all there is a situation that demands a fight and there’s no other way, I will do it. But mostly, I will keep my opinion and maintain my stand as much as possible.
Q. Bigg Boss will have several situations that will have you test your patience and lose your calm. When any such thing arises, how do you plan to work on it and maintain your composure?
Chum: I think it is important to realise that at the end of the day, this is a game and that’s how it should be perceived – everyone is in it for the competition it is. So, it is important to understand that this isn’t the end of the world and there is a life beyond it. This is a 3-month journey after which, we have our life to lead. I will be mindful about things before I say something and I don’t want to hurt anyone or rub anyone the wrong way. There is a life beyond it and I will have to deal with people outside the house as well.
Q. Have you seen previous seasons of the show as well? Who has been your favourite contestant so far?
Chum: I haven’t really followed Bigg Boss over the years but I did see Bigg Boss 13, and I found the equation between Shenaaz Gill and Sidharth Shukla to be really cute. May Sidharth rest in peace but I loved him as a contestant – he was so headstrong, and he knew what he wanted.
Q. There will be days when you will be asked to stay or more so have to be without make-up. Are you fine with that?
Chum: That’s like my go-to thing. I don’t like make-up. I am not even carrying too much and my friends were like, why aren’t you carrying make-up? I was fine with it. If there is a task like that about having no make-up, I will win for sure (laughs).
