The sixth day of Navratri belongs to Maa Katyayani, the sixth form of Navadurga. She is the goddess of courage, protection and determination, and the power to overcome every obstacle.

According to tradition, she took the name Katyayani after being born as the daughter of Sage Katyayana. She arose from the combined radiance of the gods, brought together when the world needed a force strong enough to end the tyranny of Mahishasura. Devotees picture her seated on a lion, one hand raised in blessing, another holding a sword and another a lotus.

Her strength is not rage. It is resolve. She stands for the kind of courage that does not waver once the path is chosen, and the protection she offers is as firm as her purpose. It is also believed that unmarried girls pray to her for a worthy life partner, and that the gopis of Vrindavan worshipped her with that same hope.

That is why the sixth day is a day of strength and steadiness. Maa Katyayani reminds us that determination can turn even the hardest road into a way forward.

A quiet echo of that spirit lives in Star Plus’ Apsara, where Sunehri, played by Samiksha Jaiswal, is a girl who does not give up easily. In a world that often doubts her, her determination only grows stronger. Samiksha says, “Sunehri doesn’t have all the answers, but she refuses to give up. Her determination grows every time someone tells her she cannot.”
