Bollywood industry is one of the biggest film industries in the world today. Some of the actors in Bollywood entered the industry due to family influence and some made it through theatre. Boman Irani: Acting had been a passion for Boman Irani during his school and college days. He trained under acting coach Hansraj Siddhia from 1981 to 1983. His earliest theatrical appearance was in Roshni where he played a cameo at the Regional Theatre in Versova. Boman Irani’s most illustrious play to date is I am not Bajirao which ran for 10 years.
Kalki Koechlin: As a child, Kalki Koechlin attended theatre workshops in Pondicherry. She studied drama at Goldsmiths, University of London, and worked simultaneously with a local theatre company. Kalki worked for two years with the theatre company ‘Theatre of Relativity’ and went on to work in Indian theatre for years together.
Nimrat Kaur: Nimrat Kaur is hailed for her natural acting. She began working as a theatre actress appearing in plays such as Baghdad Wedding, All About Women and Red Sparrow, working with directors like Sunil Shanbag and Manav Kaul.
Manoj Bajpayee: Manoj Bajpayee wanted to act ever since he was a kid and once he reached Delhi for college education, he knew exactly what to do. Despite having been rejected by NSD, Bajpai stuck through and started in theatre with the support of Barry John. He and NK Sharma created the Act One theatre group.
Richa Chadda: Richa Chadda has carved a niche for herself in Bollywood, and she’s no stranger to the stage either. After playing some supporting roles in a few plays about 5-6 years ago, she hit it big by appearing in Trivial Disasters alongside Kalki Koechlin and Cyrus Sahukar.
