Originally from Kerala, Anuradha Menon grew up in Chennai. Her parents Mini and Mohan Menon worked in the advertising industry. Anuradha Menon started taking part in theatre productions in school. She was associated with The Madras Players for some years. In 2000, she played Shubra in Madras Players’ Lizard Waltz (written by Chetan Shah and directed by Bhagirathi Narayanan). She also studied theatre at a school in London for one year at the London School of Drama. Then, she moved to Mumbai as it was the hub of English theatre in India. When IWMBuzz exclusively got in touch with her and asked her about her take on Good Mourning, she was quoted as saying –

“The stage is always my first love. I do one new play a year. My friend Kavi Shastri wrote Good Mourning and it boasts a stellar cast. Reconnected with old friends and have made new ones. The decision to do it was a no brainer! What I love about my theatre life is that I get to experiment with roles..unlike my stand up image, I’m not the funny one in the plays I do…they are more serious roles and I get to explore those that are fantastic.”

When asked further about what she thinks is the driving force that still keeps theatre alive in today’s time, she was quoted as saying –

“Nothing beats live performance. I truly believe that. Of course it’s convenient to binge watch shows on Netflix and Amazon, but there is a purity and charm to the theatre that’s unparalleled. It grips you and transports you into a world of minimilasim or ostentation/experimental or real.. And it’s pure heart!”
