“Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile”. There’s nothing truly more powerful than the feeling and emotion of love and if that love eventually happens between two people who didn’t really start off in the best of terms, there’s nothing really more special and intense than that. Well, seems like that’s exactly the inspiration behind ALTBalaji & ZEE5’s latest offering, Bebaakee. The word ‘Bebaak’ means fearless. So how fearless is the love in Bebaakee? Let’s explore.

The story revolves around two best friends who are top media barons and run a news portal called United India. Their bond & camaraderie is for real and they even live in the same house like a happy family that will remind you of the Sooraj Barjatiya movies in the 90s. Their sons too have grown up to be each other’s friend, philosopher & guide, and the eldest of them is Sufiyaan (Kushal Tandon). He is a straightforward, ‘no-nonsense’ person, who doesn’t like to mince with his words but has a strained relationship with his own father. This ends up him growing up with the notion that love is a useless concept and is a total ‘waste of time’.

However, this feeling of loathing & detest towards the emotion of love starts turning around when he meets Kaiynaat (ShivJyoti Rajput). Kaiynaat is a young, vibrant, zestful & high-spirited journalist who and interestingly enough, meets him at a time when he’s looking forward to grow the company by launching their own digital portal. Both of them start on the wrong foot and end up detesting each other. But that’s exactly when the idea of “distance makes the heart grow fonder” starts looking more real than ever before. The more they disagree, the more they actually come close to each other emotionally. Adorable, isn’t it?

Then comes the most interesting turn in the tale when Sufiyaan’s best friend and his uncle’s son Imtiaz (Karan Jotwani) returns from Africa to take over the company and lead from the front. In the whole process, he too meets Kaiynaat and finds it difficult to not fall for her. The job offer for Kaiynaat from Imtiaz makes the task all the way more complicated as Kaiynaat spending a lot of her time with Imtiaz doesn’t go well with Sufiyaan. So what’s the result? A nice, intriguing love triangle with a healthy sense of animosity & competition that leaves everyone torn in between.

The screenplay is what meets the eye the most in Bebaakee and the fancy & pompous sets and locations take care of the aesthetic factor with perfection. The music keeps you glued and special mention for the title track. Any love triangle is always about complexity, entanglement & convulsion and the lead trio of Kushal Tandon, ShivJyoti Rajput & Karan Jotwani do justice when it comes to bringing that factor alive on-screen. The plot is gripping and director Muzammil Desai finds him successful in translating the crux of the story to the screenplay.

To cut things short, if you are hunting for a nice romantic story with a tinge of family drama thrill, Bebaakee won’t let you down.
