Uttera Singh is all set to make a powerful entry into the world of filmmaking with her feature directorial debut, Pinch. A heartfelt and humorous mother-daughter dramedy set in India, Pinch showcases Singh’s multifaceted talent as she not only wrote and directed the film but also produced and stars in it.
The film is poised for a prestigious world premiere on June 6 at the Tribeca Festival, where it will compete in the highly regarded International Narrative Competition. Remarkably, Pinch is the first Indian film in three years to be selected in this category, signaling a proud moment for Indian cinema on the global stage. Singh’s debut promises an emotional yet witty exploration of family, identity, and generational dynamics.
The recently released teaser of Pinch offers a gripping and thought-provoking glimpse into Uttera Singh’s bold and emotionally layered directorial debut. Singh takes on the lead role of Maitri, a spirited travel vlogger who shares a cramped apartment with her conservative mother, Shobha, played by veteran actress Geeta Agrawal.
Set in a tightly knit residential complex in India, the film unravels when a disturbing incident during a community pilgrimage is quietly brushed aside. As silence looms heavy, Maitri and Shobha are forced into an intense emotional confrontation—one that challenges generational beliefs, societal expectations, and the unspoken consequences of suppression. Through dark humor, raw emotion, and sharp social commentary, Pinch exposes how society often labels trauma as “small,” ignoring the deep scars it leaves behind.
Pinch boasts a stellar supporting cast that adds depth and nuance to its powerful narrative. Joining Uttera Singh and Geeta Agrawal are acclaimed performers Sunita Rajwar (Santosh), Sapna Sand, Badri Chavan, Rajiv Neema, Jahnvi Marathe, and the late Nitish Pandey, whose presence brings added emotional weight to the ensemble.
Singh, who previously directed the award-winning short Fanny Pack—screened at over 45 film festivals globally—now steps into the spotlight with her ambitious feature debut. Backing the project is a dynamic team of producers: Faissal Sam Shaib (Arzé, Wyrm), Jenna Cavelle (Mr. Crocket, Young.Wild.Free.), Jan Bezouska, Anirudh Singh, Akanksha Jain, Pranav Soni, Muktesh Singh, Suneeta Singh, and Singh herself. Pinch will have its world premiere on June 6 at the prestigious Tribeca Festival.
