Midnight Suns, a game by Firaxis Games, was just released, continuing the success of the superhero genre in video games and possibly making up for the underwhelming debuts of Gotham Knights and 2020’s Avengers. The genre has gone a long way since it was first perceived as being little more than a hollow money grab, along with other well-known IP game adaptations like movies.

On the DC side of things, Batman: Arkham series by developer Rocksteady helped to popularize this revival, but Marvel has improved its own consistency. The top comic book titles, from well-known titles like Insomniac’s Spider-Man to surprising hits like Guardians of the Galaxy, are ranked by Metacritic.

Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2

Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 is among the more well-liked mobile games, despite being on a much smaller scale given what this platform is for gaming. The game is an update of the Facebook browser version, but it was created specifically for mobile devices this time.

A few years back, Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 was removed from the app market, but it received positive reviews for how it built on the first game. The art style changed to 3D and it was a turn-based strategy game with more playable characters.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy avoided the half-finished and micro-monetized live service method that the Avengers used in favor of a simple and single-player action-adventure game that, while not revolutionary, excelled in nearly every area it was given the task of. The game garnered positive reviews for its enjoyable combat, vibrant level design, and charming portrayal of the game’s titular superhero team that successfully differentiates itself from the popularized MCU cinematic counterparts.

Capcom’s Marvel vs. Capcom series

Despite the fact that there are other highly regarded fighting games, Capcom’s Marvel vs. Capcom series is also deserving of praise. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was a successful and vibrant celebration of both properties. Beat-’em-ups and fighting games were initially some of the best subgenres that superheroes could translate to in video games.

Midnight Suns

Firaxis Games’ Midnight Suns startled with a welcome favorable critical review, even though it wasn’t under the same level of suspicion as Eidos-Guardians Montréal’s of the Galaxy game was, similar to it. The XCOM series is where the developer team is most known for their turn-based strategy games, and they applied their knowledge of that setting to the Marvel universe to produce an innovative tactical RPG.
