Gigi Hadid attended her younger sister Bella’s birthday festivities in New York City with serious elegance. Bella embraced Italian movie icon, Sophia Loren, in a seductive cocktail dress by Dolce & Gabbana, but Gigi went the opposite direction, shattering her Millennial Barbie image in all-blue outfits. The outfit took the idea of monochrome clothing to the nth degree and put a unique take on two in-vogue silhouettes—the suit and the corset.

Blue is Gigi’s strength color, and her drop gemstone earrings and eye makeup furthered our conviction. The color is one that Kate Middleton commonly dons for both formal and casual occasions. Although Gigi’s design undoubtedly has a daring element thanks to the see-through, form-fitting bustier, it is just Kate’s go-to ensemble dressed up in supermodel street flair.

Pamella Roland and Mimi Cutrell, the model’s stylist, created a custom-made tailored trouser suit for Hadid that combined a sheer, cropped version of the structural waist-cincher with elongated boot-cut trousers. The model has been experimenting with modern tailoring recently. During fashion month, she wore a variety of innovative cuts, including a flowy shirtdress by Brandon Maxwell and chic sweats by Christian Dada. A Tyler Ellis micro box clutch, which read as a ladylike take on the mannish briefcase, and custom-dyed Stuart Weitzman satin heels completed the tone-on-tone ensemble. These pieces were a homage to a prom-night classic from about the time Hadid was born.
