While the start of spring normally signals the start of sundress season, celebs are mixing things up this year by opting for tailored shorts instead of billowing skirts. Who is the most recent celebrity to embrace the spring shorts trend? Julia Roberts, whose most recent red carpet ensemble was a rare designer fashion moment for the actress.

Roberts was in attendance for the premiere of Gaslit, her new limited series. For the occasion, the actress wore a chic Gucci suit that included a grey linen double-breasted jacket, a pale blue dress shirt, and gray-and-black checkered linen shorts. Roberts kept her business-casual ensemble basic by avoiding jewelry and opting for a pair of simple black heels. Her auburn hair was parted down the centre and fashioned in waves.

Julia’s red carpet appearance comes just days after she made the rounds in the press to promote another new film, Ticket to Paradise, in which she will star alongside George Clooney. While Roberts is no stranger to the genre, she recently disclosed in an interview with The New York Times why she hasn’t performed in a rom-com for so long.

“People sometimes misconstrue the amount of time that’s gone by that I haven’t done a romantic comedy as my not wanting to do one,” Roberts said. “If I had read something that I thought was that Notting Hill level of writing or My Best Friend’s Wedding level of madcap fun, I would do it.”

Roberts went on to say that Ticket to Paradise was the first rom-com she had seen in a long time. “They didn’t exist until this movie that Ol Parker wrote and directed that I recently completed,” she concluded. “Even so, I thought to myself, “Well, disaster,” since this only works if George Clooney is involved. George, to his surprise, thought it just worked with me. We managed to pull it off somehow, and off we went.”
