Nayanthara was born in Bangalore, Karnataka, as Diana Mariam Kurien to Kurien Kodiyattu, an Indian Army officer, and Omana Kurien. The family was Malayali Nasrani (Syrian Christian). Leno, one of her brothers, lives in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She completed her college studies in Kerala after her father retired. However, she attended a number of institutions in Chennai, Jamnagar, Delhi, and Gujarat for her elementary and secondary education. She was chosen to appear in a Malayalam film in 2003 while still a college student after being noticed by director Sathyan Anthikkad. She continued acting in Tamil and Telugu films two years later. She also made appearances in Kannada-language films as she gained popularity.

She quickly gained a reputation for acting opposite men who were nearly twice her age. She appeared in her first Malayalam movie opposite Jayaram, then in “Chandramukhi” with renowned Indian actor Rajnikanth, before sharing the screen with aging actors Sarath Kumar, Mohanlal, and Mammotty. She was selected to play the lead role in Simbu’s much younger directorial debut, in which he also stars. Intimate life-sized posters of Nayanthara and Simbu shocked Chennai and were later taken down by the authorities. The frenzy was similar to when lavish life-size posters were displayed all around Chennai.

Prabhu Deva publicly confessed his love for her in September 2010 despite the fact that he was married to Ramalath and the father of three kids. The couple filed for divorce in July 2011 after a contentious and emotional legal battle. Diana, a Jacobite Christian, converted to Hinduism at the Arya Samaj Mandir in Chennai on August 7, 2011, and as a result, her screen name is now her legal identity. It is understandable why she is one of the most well-known and in-demand actors in the South Indian cinema business, given her good looks and talent.
