Nayanthara is currently in a happy and stable relationship with Vignesh Shivan, however, she was in a contentious relationship with Prabhudeva a decade ago. Although their relationship was first kept private, it quickly became public, and Prabhudeva himself went on record saying that Nayanthara is “unique” and that he would “love to marry her.” Prabhudeva was already married and the father of two children at the time.
When Prabhudeva’s wife Latha learned about his rumored affair with Nayanthara, she pursued the case to court, claiming that Prabhudeva was not financially supporting the family due to his “extra-marital affair with Nayanthara.” Things became nastier by the day before Latha and Prabhudeva decided to call it quits on their 16-year marriage in July 2010. While many expected Prabhudeva to marry Nayanthara now that he is officially divorced, their romance couldn’t withstand the test of time, and they called it quits after only a year of living together.
During a TOI interview in 2017, Nayanthara opened out about her breakup from Prabhudeva in an emotional manner. Although she kept a dignified quiet about the basis for their breakup, she did say that her ‘life was devastated’ after the split.
Nayanthara stated that her relationship with Prabhudeva did not work and that she believes they were never meant to be together, saying, “To get into a break-up is the most terrible period in anyone’s life. When you have to leave someone, you love or vice versa for whatever reason, it completely devastates your life. However, how you handle it is critical. I can’t go into detail about how I dealt with it, but I have to if I’m going to go on.”
Nayanthara recently changed the wording of her Prabhudeva tattoo on her forearm to ‘positivity.’ Looking ahead, Nayanthara is expected to marry her lover Vignesh Shivan next year. The couple has been together for more than two years and is widely regarded as one of the most perfect couples in the Southern film business.
