At one stage, he couldn’t pay the rent of his flat so he moved to a senior citizen’s flat where he was allowed to stay on condition of cooking a meal for him. But there onwards the real-life began. He went on to perform significant characters in Dev D, Peepli Live, and Kahaani. The breakthrough he got was in 2012’s Gangs of Wasseypur and that led him to play again in its sequel Gangs of Wasseypur 2.
