Bollywood lore holds the well-known truth that Twinkle Khanna’s future marriage to Akshay Kumar in 2001 depended on the outcome of her film Mela. Twinkle had promised Akshay that she would wed him if Mela didn’t work out. Unfortunately, Mela ended up being a complete failure, but Akshay saw the bright side because they later got married. Aamir stated that while he was unaware of this situation during the publication of Twinkle’s book Mrs. Funnybones in 2015, he was happy to have “contributed” to Twinkle’s marriage.

At the event, Karan Johar questioned Aamir about whether he had ever considered Twinkle, a capable actress. Twinkle interrupted, “Once he asked me when I wasn’t concentrating on my work, I responded I was thinking about Akshay. He nearly slapped me with his hand.” “Did I?” Aamir asked in shock. “I wouldn’t have reacted in that manner.” Aamir praised her as a “great” actor.

“No, truly, I couldn’t act, and I’m glad I quit,” laughed Twinkle. She was praised by Aamir, who noted her talent for coming up with cutting remarks. “Working with her was a good experience for me…” At this point, Twinkle interrupted and mentioned how boring it was and the time she discovered him sobbing “behind a rock.” “He was sitting behind a rock,” she continued. “The director had ignored his request to explain a shot when he had gone to see him. This is Aamir, and he takes his work very seriously. He was upset and sobbing when I saw him hiding behind a rock.”

During the conversation, Twinkle recalled how Aamir had previously pushed her away from writing.

“I used to give him links to my columns when I first started writing. He would email me links to Satyameva Jayate daily while telling me that this was nonsense. So when I gave him my column and let him know it was trending at number 7 one day, he replied, “My show is trending at number 1.” I remarked that while you are a well-known actor with a prime-time television show, I am a failed actor with a column. He still challenges me, though. He competes against everyone.” Later, Aamir tried to explain himself by claiming that he had been truly worried about Twinkle’s chances of succeeding as a writer. Aamir then said that he had changed his mind and now admired Twinkle’s work greatly and had nothing but praise for her.
