For a film with a newcomer in the lead Milan Luthria’s Tadap opened with impressive boxoffice numbers—more than Rs 4 cores on Day 1—second only to Sooryavanshi in the post-Covid phase. For a debutant during these times of pandemic paranoia, this is very impressive.

And the numbers are growing over the weekend.

Trade Guru Taran Adarsh observes , “Various factors contributed to the wonderful opening of Tadap. First and foremost, the fresh lead pair. Secondly, the energetic soundtrack, which boasts of some lilting melodies. Thirdly, a love story has its advantages as the youth audience gets attracted to it instantly. Fourthly, very good pre-release promotions added to the appeal. Besides, Tadap is a remake of Telugu film RX 100, which was very well made with interesting twist and turns. Those who have watched RX 100 would draw comparisons, but those who haven’t watched the original Telugu film, found the twist and turns extremely interesting. These factors, I feel, contributed to a wonderful start.”

Maharashtra exhibitor Akshay Rathi is excited by the upward trend at the boxoffice. “Tadap has opened to truly encouraging figures. The first day’s collection is more than Rs 4 crores. I think it’s incredible for a film with newcomers. Full credit to producers Nadiadwala and Fox Star studios and the lead pair Ahan Shetty and Tara Sutaria for their phenomenal work and to director Milan Luthria for launching a newcomer with such style with a semi-newcomer,. More than anything it’s Suniel Shetty’s goodwill which has worked in the film’s favour. His popularity in A , B and C centres has ensured that people came in to see what his son is doing in Tadap.”

Trade Analyst Atul Mohan adds, “The traction Tadap has generated right from the announcement, to the first look to promo till songs, has been tremendous. The original movie in Telugu was also a hit. Hit music, good marketing, appreciation of Ahan, good reviews helped the film. Despite the fact that it released in lesser screens the film got good opening for a newcomer.”

Film expert and producer Girish Johar adds, “Tadap from its 1600+ screens across the country did manage to get a decent start for a newcomer. The response of the audience feedback is decent as well. Ahan is very promising and Tara Sutaria also is building her fan following. Hope it capitalises over the solo weekend at the boxoffice.”
