The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has called upon the head of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the widely acclaimed actor-politician Vijay to appear for interrogation regarding the unfortunate stampede that occurred in Karur, Tamil Nadu, as a direct result of his rally on September 27, 2025. This incident has taken away a minimum of 41 lives, and over 60 people have suffered injuries, which in turn have raised serious questions about how the event was managed and the safety of the public.

The fatal stampede occurred just after Vijay’s large rally, which attracted many supporters. The very first reports indicated that crowd control was inadequate and that there was a lack of proper emergency response measures. The public’s ire and demand for accountability have led to the highest level of judicial intervention.

In October 2025, the Supreme Court directed that a thorough investigation into the calamity be conducted, voicing its worries about the sufficiency of the earlier inquiry.

The CBI, following the Supreme Court’s order, is now issuing notices to all the main people involved to conduct an objective reconstruction of the disaster. Summoning of Vijay is the first major step in the case, as authorities are keen to get the complete picture of the decisions and actions of both the event organizers and political leaders.

Leaders of Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, have stated that they will cooperate fully with the investigation. They emphasize the importance of a fair and transparent inquiry to ensure accountability and justice for the victims and their families.
