Indian-American breakout star Avantika Vandanapu has officially joined the star-studded ensemble of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: 13 on FX, marking a defining transition from South Indian cinema to peak Hollywood prestige television. The 21-year-old actress, known mononymously as Avantika, steps into the dark fantasy universe as a pivotal newcomer named Ophelia, sharing the screen with returning franchise legends including Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange, and Evan Peters.
A Meteoric Rise from Hyderabad to Hollywood
Born in California to Telugu-speaking parents, Avantika began her professional acting journey as a child artist in Tollywood. Her feature film debut came in Srikanth Addala’s 2016 family drama Brahmotsavam alongside Mahesh Babu, quickly followed by appearances in Manamantha and Premam.
Her Hollywood crossover gained rapid traction after she starred as Disney Channel’s first South Asian lead in Spin (2021). She then broke into mainstream global awareness playing Karen Shetty in the 2024 musical adaptation of Mean Girls, followed by Sony’s supernatural thriller Tarot. Most recently, she led Mindy Kaling’s workplace comedy series Not Suitable for Work.

American Horror Story: 13 serves as an ambitious crossover event connecting the mythologies of past flagship seasons like Murder House, Coven, and Asylum. Avantika’s character, Ophelia, enters the narrative alongside model Alex Consani as initiates being inducted into Miss Robichaux’s Academy.
Speaking on her entry into the Murphyverse, Avantika described the season’s core energy as a blend of “sisterhood and iconhood,” emphasizing the privilege of working alongside established screen royalty.
