After facing several delays, the makers have announced that the period drama will hit theatres on August 13, just ahead of Independence Day. Aamir Khan Productions announced it on February 9, instantly sparking excitement among fans.

The film marks the first collaboration between Sunny Deol, director Rajkumar Santoshi, and producer Aamir Khan. It also reunites Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi, the iconic actor-director duo of the 1990s.

Aamir Khan shared a statement about the project and revealed its emotional value. He said the script was one of Dharamendra’s favourite stories, and he felt happy that Dharamji could see the film take shape. This has added a special emotional layer to the project.

The story of Lahore 1947 is based on Asghar Wajahat’s famous play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Ni. Set during the Partition, the film focuses on a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore. They are given a haveli that was left behind by a Hindu family forced to leave the city. The story takes a gripping turn when the family discovers that the Hindu occupants are still living in the house and refuse to move out. The situation leads to intense emotional conflict and drama.

The film also marks the comeback of Preity Zinta, who completed shooting for her portions in June last year. Sharing her experience on social media, Preity described Lahore 1947 as the toughest film of her career. Apart from Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, the film features a strong supporting cast including Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol.

Lahore 1947 was officially announced in October 2023 and has been in the spotlight ever since, thanks to its powerful storyline and impressive cast. With its release planned during the Independence Day week, expectations are high.

On the work front, Sunny Deol was last seen in the war drama Border 2, which opened to a strong box-office response and went on to earn over ₹300 crore in India. With Lahore 1947, Sunny is set to return to the intense, emotion-driven storytelling that audiences associate him with.

All eyes are now on August 13 as Lahore 1947 prepares for its big theatrical release.
