R. Chezhiyan, the national award-winning filmmaker, director, and cinematographer, has passed away, as per the reports. He took his last breath on Friday, July 10, morning in Chennai, succumbing to prolonged illness. He was 57 years old at the time of his passing.
A report by News 18 states that the filmmaker was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Taramani for his long-term health concerns. However, there are no reports on the exact reason or about his diagnosis that led to his demise.
As soon as news of R. Chezhiyan’s death surfaced, the Tamil film industry was shaken, and several celebrities took to social media to pay their tributes. As a director, filmmaker, and cinematographer, Chezhiyan has contributed significantly to the field.
The director has worked on numerous films such as Joker, College, Thenmerku Paruvakatru, and Paradesi. Chezhiyan has directed the National Award-winning film To Let. He has also won the Best Cinematography Award for Bala’s film Pardesi at the 2013 London Film Festival. The director was an engineer before pursuing a career in the film industry.
